Our Barrel Sauna Features
Our barrel saunas are made with Northern White Cedar. Why? We want to stay true to our roots and use the type of cedar we use up here. Red Cedar is cheaper, but it doesn’t represent the Keweenaw.
We do not apply a stain with our standard models as we prefer a natural look. However, stains can be applied upon request.
All barrel saunas come with architectural shingles to protect them from the sun, rain, and snow. You can select whatever roof color you would like!
Some Barrel Sauna Theories
The theory behind barrel saunas and their unique sauna experience is that the heat gets trapped near the ceiling in traditional square saunas. With the curvature of the ceiling in a barrel sauna, the heat is pushed down, caressing your body.
Another theory is quicker heat time. A barrel sauna has around 25% fewer cubic feet of air space than a square sauna. With less space to heat, the theory is that barrel saunas heat up more quickly. Some estimate this to be 23% quicker!
